Back by popular demand!
Our JourneyWomen 30th Anniversary Celebration World Tour safari was so popular that we are offering it again for 2025!
Our bespoke safari is designed specifically for the JourneyWomen who values an authentic safari experience. She is an adventurer at heart, a wildlife enthusiast, unwilling to compromise on comfort, but certainly not the pretentious traveler.
This safari itinerary offers front row seats to the world’s best wildlife viewing, and a back stage pass to meet with a team who have dedicated their lives to conserving it.
This safari is a journey for all the senses, and doesn’t end after you return to camp from your game drive. Sitting at a campfire, under the African stars, with a cold drink, listening to the sounds of the bush, and sleeping under canvas, is all part of the safari experience.
Think of Karen Blixen or Ernest Hemmingway.
Your entire journey will be in a safari prepared 4×4 jeep, with open top, and large windows for ideal game viewing. You will be accompanied by knowledgeable, friendly Tanzanian guides, who are well spoken, and passionate about their country and wildlife – proud to show you, their home.
Tanzania has been our home for a combined 35 years, managing several camps, lodges, safari companies and conservation projects. As the late Anthony Bourdain put it – they know Tanzania like I know the deli counter at Barney Greengrass.
We invite you to experience it for yourself

The itinerary details:
3rd – 11th December 2025
Destination: Tanzania
December 3rd 2025
Arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania.
Your arrival time and flight details to be advised closer to the start of the safari.
You will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel, about a half hour drive from the airport.
Overnight: Rivertrees Country Inn, or similar, subject to availability, bed and breakfast.
Rivertrees Country Inn is a lovely boutique lodge set in a green oasis on the slopes of mount Meru. You turn off the main road down a dirt road and in five minutes you arrive at the Lodge. This is where we had our wedding party, and is our favorite place to stay on arrival into Tanzania. The rooms are clean and comfortable and spread out among the beautifully manicured gardens and giant Albizia trees, remnants of the montane forest, and often occupied by the Verreaux’s eagle owl
You will wake up to tropical bird song and occasionally the rare Black and White Colobus or Sykes and Vervets monkeys playing on the lawn.
Breakfast is buffet style to suit everyone’s taste, including fresh tropical fruits and juices, a range of freshly baked breads, pastries, cold meats and cheeses. Eggs are cooked to order, with a choice of accompaniments. Served with a choice of East African teas or locally grown and hand roasted coffee.
December 4th 2025
08:30 group introduction and safari briefing by your guide over breakfast
Start your safari by heading to Tarangire National Park. The park is famous for its large elephant populations. After a short game drive from the main gate, you will arrive at Tarangire Safari Lodge in time for lunch. The lodge has a fabulous patio that offers some of the best views of the park. With a pair of binoculars, and a cold drink you can sit on the wall, and watch animals come and go in the valley below you. There is simply nothing better than this.
A bit about Tarangire Safari Lodge:
Tarangire safari lodge is one of the original camps built in Tarangire National Park to accommodate early pioneers in Photographic safaris. It has morphed over time into a Lodge, but still maintains the character of the original camp.
This family run mid-range lodge is another one of our personal favorites. You can expect excellent home cooked meals, comfortable accommodation in the form of thatch covered Safari tents, and the service is always with a smile. What makes this lodge so authentic, is the stunning location with incredible views over the Tarangire riverbed, and the feeling of being fully immersed in nature, as creatures large and small, busy about between the tents.
They also have a fabulous pool with sun loungers which can be enjoyed after lunch when the sun is at its warmest.
Overnight: Tarangire Safari Lodge, or similar, subject to availability, full board
December 5th 2025
Full day to enjoy and explore Tarangire National Park.
Overnight: Tarangire Safari Lodge, or similar, subject to availability, full board
December 6th 2025
Set off on an early morning game drive to explore Tarangire National Park returning to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will make your way out of the park and climb the Rift Valley Escarpment to the town of Karatu. Karatu is the last town before the boundary of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Serengeti National Park.
Overnight: Baghayo Gardens, or similar, subject to availability, full board
Baghayo gardens offers very cozy rooms that are clean & comfortable, and offer all the comforts of home. The food is fresh, prepared using many ingredients directly from the garden, and very tasty!
December 7th 2025
A full day trip into the Ngorongoro crater. This is one of the natural wonders of the world and your chance to see the big 5 in one day. The views from the crater rim will stay with you in your memories for life. If you get to the top and its cloudy and overcast, don’t be discouraged as often it doesn’t take long for the clouds to part ways allowing you a glimpse of the crater floor. Game driving the floor of an extinct volcanic caldera doesn’t happen every day so enjoy it, and keep your eyes peeled for the Black Rhino. Even if it’s just spotted as a little dot in the distance, it’s a privilege all the same.
Lunch will be an “al fresco” picnic on the crater floor.
Over lunch we will be joined by a team member of KopeLion, who will give you some insight into their project. This fabulous conservation project is focused on ensuring Lions can live alongside people within the Ngorongoro conservation Area. To find out more have a look at their website: www.kopelion.org.
Part of your safari cost includes a donation to KopeLion.
After lunch you will game-drive your way out of the crater and onto the short grass plains of the Ndutu area.
Overnight: Ndutu Safari Lodge, or similar, subject to availability, full board
Ndutu is one of the oldest lodges on the Safari circuit and oozes safari charm. Ndutu has not only been our ‘home’ whilst we managed it, but some of our best safari memories have been at the lodge as well as in this area. In our opinion nothing beats it. The cottages are clean and comfortable with hot running water. (Please keep in mind that the water is slightly alkaline which makes it feel a little soapy when showering). Home cooked meals are served for lunch and dinner, when the Genets (a nocturnal mammal, part of the mongoose family) will no doubt make an appearance. We will end our day by sitting under the stars, around the campfire, listening to the sound of the bush.
December 8th 2025
Full day to enjoy the off the beaten track Ndutu area.
One big advantage of the Ndutu area is that off road driving is still permitted which means it’s easier to get closer to sightings, and you’re not reliant as much on luck (how close is the cheetah to the road etc). November/December is also quiet on the plains (as far as numbers of cars go) , which gives you the added benefit of having sightings to yourself.
Overnight: Ndutu Safari lodge, or similar, subject to availability, full board
December 9th 2025
After breakfast you will game drive your way into the heart of the Serengeti National park.
Overnight: Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp, or similar, subject to availability, full board.
This is a small, intimate, tented camp located in central Serengeti. The tents are more like canvas cottages and offer all the comforts of home. The ensuite bathrooms have flushing loos and safari style bucket showers.
December 10th 2025
Full day to enjoy & game drive the Serengeti plains.
Overnight: Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp, or similar, subject to availability, full board.
December 11th 2025
An early start to the day to drive to the hot-air balloon launch site to enjoy a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti during sun rise.
The balloon trip starts with an early wake up. You will be met by a representative of the balloon company at the camp and you will drive whilst still dark (a good chance to see some nocturnal
animals trotting down the road as they head home after a busy night) to the launch site to be ready to fly at first light. You will meet your Pilot who will give you a pre-flight briefing then it’s into the basket and up-up and away. After an awe-inspiring float over the Serengeti, you will land on the plains and be whisked away for a well-earned bush breakfast served ‘Out of Africa’ Style.
After breakfast you will be taken to the Seronera airstrip to catch a light aircraft back to Arusha.
Once in Arusha there is plenty of opportunity to shop for souvenirs. Lunch will be at the Arusha Coffee Lodge. After lunch you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International airport in time to connect with your international flight home.
For those who want to extend their stay with a couple of nights in Zanzibar or a Gorilla Trekking safari in Rwanda please see our extension options.
